Terri Barnes is the author of Spouse Calls: Messages From a Military Life and is the special projects editor at Elva Resa Publishing.
A well-respected columnist, Terri is the writer and creator of the weekly Stars and Stripes column Spouse Calls, which first appeared in 2007. Now published in print editions worldwide and online, Spouse Calls serves as a voice for military spouses and families, through personal stories, incisive interviews, news analysis, and interaction with readers.
Terri has been a member of the Washington, DC, press corps and has contributed to several other books about military life. Her work has appeared in Air Force/Army/Navy Times, The Huffington Post, and Books Make a Difference, as well as newspapers, magazines, and base publications in many of her adopted hometowns around the world.
Terri's expertise in military life comes from long experience. Her father was a Vietnam veteran and career military man. She married her Air Force husband, Mark, in 1985. They have three children, Will, Jessie, and Wesley, born in military hospitals in Texas, Guam, and Arizona, respectively.
Terri is a cum laude graduate of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where she studied journalism. After living in eleven states, two foreign countries, and one U.S. territory, Terri is currently based in O Fallon, Illinois, which she estimates is her seventeenth new hometown as part of a military family.

Rodgers I hope it calls to you, too.When I first saw Terri Barnes' new book, SPOUSE CALLS: Message From a Military Life, I stopped what I was doing and stared at the cover. The image of a vintage typewriter spoke to the writer in me, but it was the sepia-toned photographs in the background that prompted me to get out my wallet and place my order. I was especially drawn to the handsome airman decked out in uniform -complete with wheel hat - to the left of the space bar. That man, it turns out, was Terri's dad when he was active duty.In a conversational tone, Terri writes with humility, grace, and humor from the perspective of both a military spouse and a military brat. I found that comforting. Although the book is comprised of some of her favorite stories from her popular column in Stars & Stripes, there is a seamless quality to the narrative. One story flows into the next and you are compelled to keep reading.One line on page 72 is sobering: "These are people who face deployment with wills written and funerals preplanned."As a former Air Force wife turned Army mom, I found this book addicting. All military spouses - former, present, and future - will want to grab a copy and start reading. It's a page-turner. And it's not gender specific. It speaks to all military spouses as well as military brats.It's not out on Kindle yet, but the paperback is lovely and worthy of any bookshelf. I highly recommend Terri's book to anyone who appreciates our military families and cares about those who protect our nation and our freedom.Kathleen M. Amazing, and not just for readers in or interested in the military By Jon Burrows Admittedly, the cover of this book caught my eye while I was searching for another book (thank you amazon, for your "Customers who bought this item also bought..."), and I decided to get a copy of this as well. Terri Barnes writes with such grace, humor, and insight into not just military life but the human condition that I completely fell in love with "Spouse Calls." I highly recommend it.

It made me appreciate not only the military men and women who fight for our freedom every day, but their families as well. Terri does a great job in giving us a sample of what military families go through, and I am now more grateful than ever for the freedoms we have! This is a great book to give as a gift to those who have actually lived the military lifestyle, as well as to those who enjoy the freedoms our great country offers us.
