About the Author
Pamela F. Lenehan is a board director of three publiclytraded companies and one nonprofit. She spent 21 years on Wall Street, becoming one of the first female partners, and was a Csuite executive of a NYSE company and a hightech startup. She pursued her career while raising her daughter and son, who now have families of their own.

By JaneAnderson I believe all mothers are mentors. Whether they see themselves that way, whether they work at a job they get paid for or whether they stay home and work without a paycheck, every mom sends a message to her children; she is always teaching. I was a stay at home mom for a while and then became a working mom, which is why this book was like a magnet to me. The author blends in-depth research of other families and her own personal experiences, pulling together data that confirms what I’ve wondered myself. Did being a working mom have an impact on my children? The answer is, “Of course.” Was it negative or positive? You know what? There is no conclusive evidence either way.This book can’t say that kids turn out better if their moms work outside the home or not. What this book does is brings out the role of moms as mentors and brings in every aspect of mothering I could think of. There are a number of charts and graphs that apply percentages to answers from surveys taken from mothers, sons, and daughters to represent the impacts from their perspective. That’s all I’m going to say about the collected data. This book was a lot more interesting than the numbers. In the book the author, Pamela Lenehan, uses responses from interviews and her survey to tell the stories of real people.

By Susan Farrell How many working mothers wonder about how their children perceived growing up compared with those whose mothers did not work outside the home? I think my guilt got worse over time, long after the girls were in college, as I re-created the history of what I had missed.My Mother, My Mentor provides a research-based look at what the children of working mothers really thought. It is uplifting, heart-warming, and a tremendous relief. I read it in one sitting and have bought ten copies to give to my young colleagues now struggling with toddlers while remaining valuable members of our professional services company.Thank you to the author for approaching the subject in a methodical way which makes the conclusions believable. I definitely recommend the book to working women, their children and their husbands.

Data that helps women understand how their work impacts their children By Forza1 This is a great book for any woman who is wrestling with the question of whether to work outside the home or not. The author surveyed over a thousand working and non-working mothers and their children, and also performed one-on-one interviews with working mothers and their families to understand how the mother’s work impacted them and their attitudes. I found the quantitative date the most interesting, as it clearly indicates some subtle differences during the school years, but similar outcomes at the end of the day. The book resonates for me, as a working mother who felt guilty about the choices I made at the time, but who now believes that my family benefited as a result - both financially and emotionally. This book helps women understand the facts and make whichever decision is right for them.
