By Amazon Customer As big fans of EC (Google 'elimination communication' or 'go diaper free'for more info), we absolutely LOVE this book. I have raised 2 girls so far using the EC method and one was potty trained by 19 months, and the other is 15mo currently and consistently telling me when she has to eliminate.This book just makes sense! There is not a single mention of diapers, thus shifting our focus off of "getting out of them". Parents become so consumed with " getting out of diapers "as a goal, it can create a lot of pressure on our chosen and even make them feel guilty for wearing them, which can lead to an unhealthy attachment to them!I am just as guilty at times. In our home, even though we practice EC, we still use diapers as a backup, a " tool "so to speak (not a toilet), but we aren't focused on getting rid of them, so much as, " getting the pee and the poo in the toilet where it belongs, and always has ". There is no attachment or dependence on diapers. And that's why this book works for us when no others have.The drawings are simple and the colors aren't too overwhelming; both my 3yo and my 15mo love it. It goes through the steps of the potty process from the very start, beginning from the child playing and realizing he/she needs to go (the baby is gender neutral and you can decide if you want to say he or she). This was a big hurdle for us in potty training- having the child stop playing when she realizes she needs to use the potty. This book takes the process from this point and makes it a fun and easy thing to do. I believe it will help children relate more and really help it " click ", where, many times, our teachings from our mouths don't make sense to our kids.The little baby then goes through the potty process, including signaling, calling for help, PUSHING panties down (great word usage regarding pants/panties versus the typical (and wrong) 'pull', and no diapers are worn despite the baby appearing to be in the 12-18 month range), making the cueing sound, wiping, pulling pants back up, dumping the little potty (which my girls love to do and were so excited to see another baby doing it too!), washing hands and finally, and most importantly, BACK TO PLAY!This board book makes a great companion to any potty training process, but especially to children who have been EC'd, or are less dependent on diapers than most. I highly recommend that you get this book, especially if you have or will purchase the Go Diaper Free Book, or The Tiny Potty Training Book, also by Andrea Olson.Makes a great gift for the parents who love sensible gifts.
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The book EC families have been waiting for By Amazon Customer Our EC graduate is now almost three, but I wish we'd had this book when he was under 2. It's everything an ECing family wants in a kid's book. The only improvement I would make would be another book that features a dad as a caretaker instead of a mom. Not replacing this one, but adding another option. Either that, or make the parent character (who isn't pictured much anyway) more androgynous-looking so you can use whatever name you want when you read it. In our family, both mom and dad have been responsible for EC.All in all a great book. My kid has it memorized!

It's about time we had a resource written FOR kids that communicates that they are in-tune to their bodies. The illustrations go through the whole process from realization to completion of a potty moment. I love the simplicity of the illustrations. Not too busy or distracting. I agree with other reviewers that I wish there was a more intuitive rhyme scheme to the text. But it is written in a clear and easily understood voice.
