Kauffman Wow...this book really opens your mind to a futuristic food system that seems inevitable with our growing world population, as touched on in this book we are already genetically modifying food for better yields.The author has done extensive research on this topic and it shows in his writing. I was aware of 3d printing on the level of it being used for weapon applications for the military, and for its ability to print potential human organs, ears, and skin. As I’ve seen a documentary of a 3d printer print a heart for a mouse and it actual started to beat upon completion. But, food...this is just as shocking as the printing of living organs to me.I don't want this review to be a spoiler, but I can say you won’t regret reading this book, it really opens your eyes to a future that seems impossible to escape, a 3d printed pizza might be on your family's menu sooner than you realize.

I really struggle with the thought of printing and creating our own food and this book answered a lot of questions about how 3D printing could change the future of the food we produce. The author has clearly researched the subject very thoroughly and the book is well written and a surprisingly easy read given the subject matter.In order to understand the future of food we need first to examine the history, in the introduction Future Food examines evolution and how changes in our diet and the way we produce and cook our food has affected the way we have evolved as humans.I loved the use of the term “Franken Foods” and as the book quite rightly points out there are so many examples of these in our diet already, we have cheese produced without diary or animal products, as well as synthetic meats. If as consumers we have already accepted these products into our supermarkets then why should 3D printed food be any different?All in all Future Food is a really informative read; I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in nutrition or studying food technology.

By Kkat I came to this book expecting to read something that was quite futuristic and basically a science fiction type prediction. I was really shocked at how far 3D printing has come and what can already be done today. Combining that with what does look probably for the future is amazing. I also get a lot of Kindle Unlimited books that are badly edited or hard to understand and this is definitely not one of them.The author did a great deal of accurate research on the history of food and cooking and then points out all the technologies we are already using safely with food. I have friends who are terrified of everything from preservatives to Genetically Modified foods, but in fact I have had more difficulties when buying so-called organics due to issues with food safety. I look forward to new technologies like this that could give us better, faster, cheaper food and could also do so much for the problems with world hunger. If “Franken Food” is here, the book convinces me that I’ll be glad it is. Even if it doesn't make you feel that way, it will give you 3D food for thought!
