Pete Hoekstra, the former chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, tells the real story behind the tragic events in Benghazi and the Obama Administration's disastrous foreign policy catastrophe in Libya. ARCHITECTS OF DISASTER documents the role played by an inexperienced president and a politicized US State Department under Hillary Clinton in turning a stable North African country into a failed jihadist state spreading terrorism throughout the Middle East and releasing a flood of fearful immigrants onto the Mediterranean and into Europe.

Review "In his new book, Pete Hoekstra cuts to the core in identifying how a radical Islamist agenda left to its own devices cannot reconcile with Western ideals of tolerance and acceptance. Architects of Disaster creates the necessary framework in which future administrations can apply lessons learned to better inform critical foreign policy decisions." -- Mitt Romney, former Governor of Massachusetts and 2012 Republican Presidential nominee"A graphic autopsy of what went wrong in Libya and why." -- James Jay Carafano, Heritage Foundation"Pete Hoekstra's thorough examination of how the Obama Administration's misguided policies contributed in the past few years to Libya's disintegration is must reading. This insightful history and analysis is worth careful study, especially as America's citizens debate what policies should come next after President Obama leaves office." -- John Bolton, former US Ambassador to the UN

By Jeffrey K Danhof Pete Hoekstra served as perhaps the most effective Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee in its 40-year history, holding both the Bush and Obama administrations accountable for covert activity largely hidden from public view. As the Shillman Senior Fellow at the Investigative Project on Terrorism, intelligence has apparently become an even more singular focus for him.It shows through his inaugural book, ‘Architects of Disaster: The Destruction of Libya.’ It is so much more than the scores of texts out there with conspiracy theories about the 2012 attack on the Benghazi consulate in Libya.Hoekstra painstakingly details how President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton had no nefarious plans when they lawlessly intervened in the sovereign country’s affairs. They simply had no idea what they were doing. All decisions were based on political calculations and outright naivety about the radical Islamist enemy, which has become a running theme that continues seven years into Obama’s presidency.‘Architects’ is a penetrating must-read for those who harbor any doubts about the Obama administration’s incompetence in international affairs. The Lessons Learned section at the end of the book provide perhaps the only positive aspect of the tragedy of Libya, which is that the U.S. should never again suffer the humiliation of implementing a foreign policy that could only be dreamed up in a faculty lounge.

A Studied Primer on Obama’s Foreign Policy By Amazon Customer I don’t believe that I am alone in wondering why the U.S. had such a large presence in Benghazi in the first place, and now we are closer to having some answers. Pete Hoekstra sheds light on some of the more egregious activities, including turning a blind eye to the flood of weapons given directly to Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated radicals. We now know that the U.S. and NATO played a large role in allowing their transfer to the ‘moderate’ rebels in Syria that would become ISIS.Architects of Disaster illustrates the results of a foreign policy that involves negotiating with Islamic terrorists. Most notably it fueled the rise of ISIS in Syria and Iraq where it continues its genocide against religious minorities in the Middle East, which in turn has created the massive refugee crisis currently engulfing Europe. It will take years to recover from the mess the next president will inherit.

By Jayne Geribo 'Architects of Disaster: The Destruction of Libya' certainly allows the reader to understand how conditions in Libya deteriorated to such a point that our consulate was unsafe and the tragedy of Benghazi was inevitable! The U.S. had assisted in overthrowing Gaddafi by arming and training jihadists, and then walking away and leaving all these unaccounted for weapons behind. At the time I remember members of congress questioning "where are the weapons?" A question never answered - the weapons were now in terrorists' hands. It comes as no surprise that the Obama administration and, of course, Hillary Clinton think so little of the American people as to simply blame an anti-Islamic video by an unknown filmmaker rather than take ownership of the disaster they created.I particularly like "Lesson 8: Foreign Policy Matters - A Lot" , found on page 135 of Rep. Hoekstra's book. Excellent advice from Rep. Hoekstra as we look toward our future elections. As he continues advice in the final chapter, America must build a steady foreign policy with bipartisan support. This would be the lesson learned from the disaster in Libya.
