By Andrew Fontenelle We all too familiar with the images we see daily of poor people across the world, but we never stop to ask ourselves why are these people so poor when they are living in the most resource rich places on the globe? Why is it that Western Governments continue to applaud themselves for giving large sums of aid to the poor nations, but abject poverty continues to be a scourge in the 21st Century. Is it just fate, mismanagement by the leaders of these nations as many would have us believe or something more sinister?In "BANKRUPTING THE THIRD WORLD", the authors show precisely what is wrong with the aid industry, which mask scams that leave fragile nations paying more than they receive in foreign aid. Part one of the book shows all the ways that Western institutions (organisations, private companies and banks) rip-off those most in need. The two case studies in the second part of the book, demonstrate precisely how people living in the vicinity of great wealth are made to lose control of their own resources and so left destitute.This is a well written and thought provoking book. We should all be questioning the aid policies of Western Governments which not only provide little benefit to the poor across the world, and results in much of the money donated by many ordinary people, together with the aid budgets (which come from the taxes we pay), in the hands of private companies and central banks. Some of the findings may be a bit shocking to readers.I felt this book was very knowledgeable, with a lot of references and research that was put into this book (and explained on the pages). Also questioned whether the aid packages provided are genuine or whether they are scams designed to subjugate Third World countries.Overall I found this BANKRUPTING THE THIRD WORLD: How the Global Elite Drown Poor Nations in a Sea of Debt interesting, thought provoking and controversial. It definitely left me wondering what really goes on that we don't know about. I highly recommend to all.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. New World Order By J. Rogers Barrow The Morcan team, father and son, give us a short study and critique of international aid organizations. The book is easy to follow and has many maps and photos. The text is one that would be of interest to the general reader. The work avoids the common painful structure of longer, dry and dull treatments of subjects of this nature. There is limited public interest in the wasteful and evil structures and institutions of the modern world. In the USA, some of the public does have interest in these abuses and the need for reform. The unsettled political situation in the USA makes the future hard to predict (March 2016.) On one side, we see general calls for strong, forceful leadership. On the other, calls for programs that provide free education and other services. International aid and other vital issues are of limited interest for the general public. Books like this are a positive step, and the next few years may see a new international order begin to emerge. But do not hold your breath.
