In the 1960s, these issues were explosive ones--especially for people who happened to fall in love with the "wrong" person--someone appearing too different from what society expected... This book explores the interactions of two families in crisis in which race, prejudice, and bigotry are significant factors. The story offers important insights into the characters' decision-making processes, as they struggle to deal with these challenging--and sometimes emotionally painful--issues. I hope that readers will find messages of love and hope in the actions of these characters...and perhaps be inspired to promote understanding and compassion in the world that we all share.
About the Author What can love do? Love can change lives...but so can fear. When we are afraid, problems arise, and, often, what we fear, we must face, in order to grow emotionally. The love of family and friends can help us face our fears, and heal body and soul...But I have found that creating and maintaining loving relationships can be difficult--and learning to care deeply for myself has been, by far, my most challenging relationship experience of all! Perhaps that is why I chose to write this book; it is a story about people who want love and understanding--but they need to love themselves--and to love one another--even when their fears threaten to overwhelm them. I think that working in human services professions as a counselor, teacher, and a psychiatric nurse, has helped me to realize that there are no easy answers to life's questions...or for facing fear. Everyone struggles with love, with fear, and in relationships...and, often, there are no "quick fixes," but I believe that sharing insights through human interest stories like "Love on Ice" can help us to better understand ourselves, and one another. In my novel, I describe ways in which people deal with interpersonal conflicts, how they try to meet their needs for love and understanding...and how they try to face and overcome their deepest fears. Relationships allow us to discover and share feelings of love and compassion for ourselves and others. Although I believe that love is the answer to every question, sometimes "real" love is not easy to define...or to express... I hope that this story inspires readers to find more love in their own minds and hearts--and bring that love into their lives, their relationships ...and into the world we share together. By Billji Characters and social situations that are real & universal in addressing issues of family, interracial identity, and spirituality in every-day life. Ms. Ray has both the professional counseling and personal life experience to convey to the reader how people can relate and resolve personal & family situatiions while giving us an entertaining, fun, and fast-moving read. Check it out--for the price of a latte! And enjoy it while home for the holidays, and after.

It was touching, sweet, a very smooth and addicting read, relate-able with very real and human characters. Mary sets up a very believable 60s atmosphere and while doing so, thoughtfully and gently navigates the characters' relationships. The story has a nice build without being vulgar and overly sexual. There is definitely plenty of classy romance and fear conquering, which makes inspires the reader to consider his/her own choices in life. Overall it is a touching and feel good story... enjoy! I recommend!
