About the Author Lori Hetzel has been an advocate for adopted families and children for almost thirty years. She is the mother of four children—two biological, two adopted. She and her husband Karl are passionate about supporting disadvantaged children, and have made it one of their missions in life to care for those less fortunate. Lori continues her efforts at outreach and education for families within the adoption community through writing, speaking, and mentoring others. They live in Greenfield, Wisconsin.

Their family's willingness to go to extreme lengths to heal their daughter show their love and commitment to her. The price they have paid for that measure of healing does not go without notice.

Highly Recommended By Jackie Semar Candid, absorbing, inspiring account of mother and family's commitment to a child presenting complex and dangerous behavior disorders. As an infant orphaned in Russia, Nadya suffered severe deprivation. She sought and feared love, with minimal capacity to regulate her reactions. This is the story of the heartbreaking effects of institutionalization, of children with profound trauma and virtually no hope of security or love. There are literally hundreds of thousands of children like Nadya who, if adopted early in life, have a much better chance to fulfill their potential. Nadya's story is an indictment of governments that abandon orphans and fail to place them with adoptive families. Highly recommended for adoptive families and professionals.

This book is an excellent resource for professionals By Brittany Russotto This book is an excellent resource for professionals, students, parents and anyone who is interested in adoption and/or Reactive Attachment Disorder. It gives us a special glimpse into what a day to day life would be like for families dealing with a child with RAD and special needs. Thanks to Lori's honesty, the reader is welcomed into the Hetzel family and can feel the joy and struggles that the family experienced. The Hetzel's are a very caring family and have provided their children with a loving family and home, even when it was difficult. Lori truly portrays what it takes to "love harder."
