3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. ELDERS ROCK! By GPS This book is a real treasure, a page-turner, brilliantly presented with potential international impact. The first part of the book provides the thesis of what it means to be an Elder and the second part presents the roadmap on how to become one.The writing is clear, easily readable by intellectuals as well as the “Everyman”. The overall thesis of the book is well researched and enhanced by the candid inclusion of the author’s relevant personal experiences.For me, reading the book was a revealing learning experience. When I retired as president of a major corporation, I was at a cross road in this new phase in my life. I was trying to decide how I could continue to make a meaningful contribution to humanity. Dr. Austin’s book, Elders Rock! provided an answer. I hope that the author will continue to gift us with his insights in his future writings and seminars about the treasure of becoming an Elder, and how it can reward us individually and as a society.

Great Book By Bob B --------------------------------------------------------------------------------I have known the author, Harvey Austin, since 1986, when I became one of his patients, which in the end, a base for a continued friendship to this day.Harvey has been walking around with this unique book in his head for years. Finally, he has written it and reading it I have discovered the book has revealed that "yes" we all have the same secrets, wounds, self-pity, and rebellious experiences. Reading this book, enables one to truly relate to the next person. "Everyone has their story" however, not many put it into words like Harvey.As I read his book which has been offered for review, I felt like Harvey was right there in the room with me. The first few pages put you in a place of not being able to get to your scheduled tasks of the day because the words are masterfullly written from the heart, you wanted to reach out and soothe this "little boy's" pain.The book is a true "page turner." You also realize that he is putting into words, what all of us have experienced (you feel he's been peeking into your soul) and that is if your parents say it or do it then it must be right and true. Harvey takes you on his journey, of luckily, unlike other youth, being born with a doubt and did something about it with great sacrifice. Eventually, with great determination, he found fullfillment many years down the road making the sacrifices worthwhile.In the book, Harvey writes of choosing to go from having everything to going for nothing. Perhaps that is why he is is quite modest in his book regarding the lives he changed through his Cosmetic Surgery practice. He combined the physical changes to a patient with inner changes leading his patients to the Forum, wanting them to experience the same joyous experience, creating a complete transition. To many of us, (17 of my friends) his practice did not seem for financial gain. He was in it to change people's lives, his practice was that vehicle. This was much more tangible then anything material.In the book he reveals one of his early jobs was being an Ice Cream Man.Harvey, you are my favorite "Ice Cream Man." !Sandy and Bob Belsley

Its perspective on the Elder community (and beyond) is one that is greatly needed for everyone to read and act upon. Harvey Austin writes in a way that is not only easy to understand, but it will touch, move and inspire you to an indepth awareness of the importance of Elder in our culture today. He is inviting us to create and model a new way of Being , the way of wisdom and compassion..This is a unique and vital work that provides the true realization of what an Elder really means in our culture today. This book gives a magnificent perspective on the idea and position of Elder in an entirely new way. It brings forth the richness of the relationship we have with ourselves and those all around us through Elderhood.
