About the Author Lucy Baldwin is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at De Montfort University, Leicester, having joined academia in 2004 after a long career in social and criminal justice. She has practised in a variety of fields including social work, probation and prisons and has experience across a wide range of resources from service user, victim and offender-focussed perspectives when she has been 'touched by the heart and soul of women, especially the mothers with whom I have worked and the challenges they face.' A mother of three and stepmother of one she is also a novice grandmother.Author of the ForewordVicky Pryce is a mother who went to prison following one of the most high profile criminal trials of the recent past for taking the speeding points of her Cabinet member husband. An economist, she was joint head of the UK's Government Economic Service. She is the author of Prisonomics (Biteback, 2013), an analysis of the economic and human costs of imprisoning women, the royalties from which help former women prisoners to find work via the charity Working Chance.

By Amazon Customer 'Mothering Justice' delivers a warm and empathetic tone to the complexities of women as mothers experiencing adversity. The aptly placed 'pause for thought' throughout all chapters facilitates space and time to consume an array of policy, legislation, abstract concepts and ideologies and contextualises these within real life case studies of mothers immersed within in a variety of difficult circumstances. The ‘pause for thought’ also simultaneously serves to beautifully interlink discussion and case studies from other chapters.Written by practitioners from a range of criminal and social justice professions, the book really addresses a gap in literature on how to work positively within mothers facing difficulties. Such mothers who are more than often pushed to the fringes of society, have limited voice and are oppressed by societal gendered expectations.A great book for practitioners and also a fantastic aid for criminal and social justice vocational training courses and degree/postgraduate programmes.
