Amazon customer reviews for the book's first edition: "I took it with me when I gave birth to our daughter and it kept all our info at our fingertips. The medical staff was impressed with how organized I was when they were asking me to fill out paperwork and when they saw my book wished that more mothers would get one!"

"I am an organizer junkie, and I LOVED this organizer! It's wonderfully thorough, logically organized, and has more info than you'll ever use! She thought of things I would have NEVER thought of, like what to ask potential pediatricians. All in all, a great resource and well worth the money."

"This was the best purchase I made in anticipation of our new baby. I'm a first time mom and would have been lost without this book throughout the pregnancy."

"My twins are almost a year old and I still use the book to write down questions for the pediatrician and gifts the kids receive. Not only was it great for preparing for the babies, it will be a wonderful memento later."

"While preparing for baby can be an uncertain and scary time, this book brings some order and organization to the planning process. I carry this book wherever I go. I would highly recommend this book to anyone expecting."

"I loved this organizer because it didn't seem to be too commercialized, it offered just the right amount of things that you would need - as I found out after my baby was born!"

"I found this book invaluable! I recommend it to all first time moms and have given it to just about everyone I know that is having a baby for the first time. "

Getting Ready for Baby: The Practical Parent's Organizer, by Hélène Tragos Stelian

About the Author While preparing for her first pregnancy, Hélène Tragos Stelian found few useful books to help first-time parents get organized for their baby's arrival. She created charts and checklists of her own to plan for the experience of birth and motherhood, and after lending these forms to countless friends, realized she had the beginnings of a book project. Thus, Getting Ready for Baby was born. Hélène lives in Chicago with her husband Peter and their twin girls Bianca and Indigo.

By Bastille I only wish I had Helene Tragos Stelian's latest edition of "Getting Ready for Baby" before I adopted my son. It would have made our lives so much easier - before and after he arrived. She has carefully organized everything an expectant parent needs to know or to do including detailed task lists so you won't miss anything important. The shopping guides and practical advice on what to borrow versus what to purchase are very helpful. I especially like the chapters that allow you to track doctor visits and calls; an excellent way to monitor any health concerns and track progress. I highly recommend this organizer as an essential tool for parents to be whether they are expecting their first child or their fourth. It will be my "go to" gift for friends and family who are expecting.

Some good lists, but not much more By JHanlon I do not recommend this book if you are pregnant and looking for an organizer to take notes and keep various things. It has some very useful lists across various topics related to pregnancy, but not much else. This is my second pregnancy. With the first I used the "40+ weeks organizer", which was amazing, but is now out of print. I ordered this one based on the recent publication date and the good reviews. I am now returning it. As someone who has actually used one of these guides before, I can tell you that this book is not really that practical or useful. What it is: a paperback book, black-and white laser printed (you can see the pixels in the headings), with lists for various aspects of pregnancy and the first year. These lists are geared toward someone planning a traditional hospital birth (no mention of how to choose a midwife or on home births, nor any info about cesarean delivery or VBAC), and apparently only having 8 appointments with their OB (FYI, with an uncomplicated pregnancy you should expect to have 12-14 visits total beginning at week 8). It seems most focused on what you need to purchase or acquire - sections include "shopping for mom", "shopping for baby", "baby showers and gifts", even the "resources" section begins with a long list of books that you can buy. This book does NOT have adequate places to take notes about your OB or midwife appointments (1st there's not enough slots for all the appointments you'll have, and 2nd it's missing slots for important details that you'll want to keep track of, like your weight, blood pressure (really important), fetal heart rate, and the height of the fundus), nor adequate space in general for taking notes on anything (e.g. for birthing class notes there is ONE page!), no places to journal or take notes about emotions or concerns or memories, no places to put things (no pockets or sleeves), no information or check lists related to health, food, exercise, etc., no place to track your weight gain. It's also not spiral bound.Overall, I could envision giving this book to someone who is not type A, and not organized, has never had a child, and was planning to have an uncomplicated vaginal birth at a hospital with an OB. The person would keep it on their bookshelf primarily, and take it off as needed to reference the lists and tick off the boxes. So, if you have a friend who is clueless about pregnancy and you know wouldn't be committed to taking notes on anything and already has some other book specifically for baby journal type stuff, then this book might be ok.However, if you are someone who wants a book that big provides information and also enables you to write down and keep track of all your pregnancy information, then this book is definitely not for you.

Must Have for practical parents-to-be By Kristin Tassi I LOVE this book!Being newly pregnant, you are absolutely bombarded with information...do this, eat this, by all means...don't do this! Each week, you have new questions like what you should buy for the baby, when to start thinking about maternity clothes, the things you can't forget to ask your doctor. It can be extremely overwhelming. Getting Ready for Baby is the only book I've found that takes an honest, pragmatic approach to pregnancy. It advises approaching parenthood like any other life change or event (think planning a wedding)...practically. With lists and tricks and trackers, this book is a MUST HAVE for the practical parent-to-be. It's already become my go-to resource and guide, and I'm pretty sure I'll be packing it in my hospital bag as well!
