Better Behavior: Helping Kids Create Change and Improve Relationships is a practical and thorough guide for parents struggling with some of the most common parenting challenges. The book provides parents with the skills to effectively understand, and provide help for, a wide variety of issues ranging from negative behavior, to low self-esteem, to strained family relationships. In addition, the book focuses on critical skills for parents to help their children develop—the five core skills: understanding feelings, communication, flexibility, respect, and problem solving. Development of these skills is essential because they provide the solid foundation that prevents many negative behaviors from occurring in the first place. The book also helps parents understand and balance the two main parenting influences: empathy and authority. Presenting a balanced amount of both empathy and authority provides parents with the ability to both guide their children’s behavior, while at the same time, strengthening the parent-child relationship. In this way, the book extends far beyond traditional behavior management techniques to offer parents a developmentally-based, complete guide for creating change in family life. Better Behavior’s unique accomplishment is that first it provides parents with a complete strategy for helping kids do better by looking at all of the relevant factors including: temperament, parenting styles, attachment and emotional attunement, family roles and dynamics, self-confidence and self-esteem, united parenting and much more. Secondly, the book highlights specific skill areas, with lots of examples and suggestions, to help both parents and kids gain the ability to develop family and social relationships based on cooperation and mutual respect. Better Behavior provides parents with many of the same insights and tools that a seasoned child therapist uses to help families improve relationships and create lasting behavioral change. Written by Noah Kempler, MFT, a licensed child and family psychotherapist, author and parent educator with over twenty years experience counseling individuals and families, Better Behavior is the culmination of a decade-long effort by Noah to create for parents a comprehensive guide for creating lasting behavioral change. The book accomplishes this and provides a truly unique contribution to parenting and behavior management by reaching beyond traditional parenting books to help parents understand how and why difficult behaviors arise, and then to help them develop the strategies and skills needed to create lasting change. Better Behavior has garnered critical acclaim from noted parenting and child development experts. Here are just a few recent comments: “This book provides a practical, doable, and—most importantly—effective approach for helping struggling kids do better.” —Dr. Christine Carter, Senior Fellow, UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center and author of Raising Happiness and The Sweet Spot “This book is long overdue. If children came with an instruction manual they might have asked Noah to write it.” —Allen Berger, Ph.D., Clinical Director of the California Institute of Gestalt Experiential Therapy and author of Love Secrets—Revealed and other books

Better Behavior: Helping Kids Create Change and Improve Relationships, by Noah Kempler

Review "This is a clearly written book that will help parents improve both their relationships with their children, and their children's behavior. I highly recommend it, especially for parents of younger kids who want to become more proactive than reactive, and are in the process of building stronger family and social relationships. "  -Richard Goldwasser M.D. Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist, Mill Valley, CA"This book is a powerful tool for parents of all types of children. Kempler provides specific steps and strategies to tackle challenging behaviors in a clear, concise, and easy-to-read format. The content is relevant to managing parenting challenges, large and small, and paves the way to deeper bonds between parent and child."  -Leigh Burkey, OTR/L, Co-founder/director Ready Set GO Therapy, Inc."This book provides a brilliant integration of evidence-based parenting strategies with a practical explanation of the role of emotions, temperament, and attachment in building positive family relationships."-Barbara Easterlin, Ph.D., Assistant Clinical Professor, UC Berkeley Department of Psychology "In over fifteen years of working in education I have read dozens of books written about the development and behavior of kids. This is the most accessible book that I have read on the subject. It is perfect for anyone who wants to better understand and connect with children."  -Thaddeus Reichley, Head of Lower School, Mark Day School  "This book is long overdue. If children came with an instruction manual they might have asked Noah to write it."  -Allen Berger, Ph.D., Clinical Director of the California Institute of Gestalt Experiential Therapy and author of Love Secrets--Revealed and other books

The chapter on the temperament profile alone is enough to make the reams of pages from all the other books, over all of the years, have been worthwhile..to finally land here. Noah has a very easy way about his presentation, the way he communicates. Like he is just sitting in your living room having a conversation with you. I find this book super accessible, very do-able (finally some actual action steps 1-2-3), and very respectful of the intricacies of parenting and of all of our personal experiences. I really feel like Noah loves what he does and it seems like the experience of what he is preaching is ingrained in him to such a level that it is effortlessly passed on to those of us lucky enough to be holding his book. I hope this book gets out there into the hands of every parent and educator who is struggling or knows someone who is. It would be a different world out there if children were treated with the quality of respect this book suggests, and if parents felt they had the tools to bridge the gap. Excellent read. Worth it!

It breaks down so many of the challenges into easy to understand components and gives clear parenting paths to help resolve issues. I really loved the insightfulness and pragmatic nature of this book. As a parent of three kids I really connected with this book and would recommend it to any parents, grand parents, or even professionals that work with kids. Really beautifully written!

As a parent of three children (ages 9 through 13), I found this book incredibly helpful. Noah Kempler's discussion of the various temperament profiles that children possess and the parenting styles best suited to each profile was illuminating. He offered practical, effective solutions to the varied needs of our children. The book was also well-designed with the table of contents and summaries at the end of each chapter making it very easy to find the information most relevant to you. Our family relationships have definitely improved because of this book.

Good Recipes to Try By Books and Chocolate This cookbook contains a collection of Mexican recipes from appetizers, snacks, and desserts to main dishes including casseroles, soups, fajitas, enchiladas, and burritos. The chicken chilaquiles (a tortilla casserole) was good and my family enjoyed it. We also liked the tortilla soup recipe. The recipes use ingredients that can be found in most larger grocery stores and can be easily adapted to lower fat or low-sodium substitutions or using canned versions of things like salsa instead of making it from scratch. Each main recipe has three or more variations that at times are nothing more than using a different meat or cheese or vegetable, so that's how the book lives up to the title of 500 recipes. There are also color photographs which I always like in a cookbook.None of the recipes seemed that difficult so this cookbook would be suitable for cooks of any level. It would be a great gift for anyone who enjoys easy but tasty Mexican food. After reading the other negative reviews about this book having factual errors or being mostly a history book, I wondered at first if I had the wrong book. There is no history in my copy, just recipes, and I haven't found any factual errors from what I've read so far so I'm not sure what those reviewers are talking about. There is a glossary of ingredients and equipment as well as a brief explanation of the differences in regional Mexican cuisine but it is definitely a recipe book. I've never been to Mexico so I can't say if the recipes are "authentic" or not, but the ones I've tried so far were good.

Great book for mexican cooking By Lehigh History Student The 500 Mexican Dishes provides 125 recipes for a variety of traditional Mexican dishes such as tacos, enchiladas and quesadillas to Mexican flavors on lamb, fish and steak. Each of the 125 recipes has four minor variations that tweak the item into a different version by adding a new flavor profile. Like all of the books in the series this provides excellent recipes that are customizable so if you are familiar with flavors it is easy to create your own variation. The book also provides a nice selection of desserts, drinks (alcoholic and non) as well as salsas to put on a variety of dishes and chips. We have made about a dozen of the 125 recipes and have not yet found any factual errors and in fact have been very pleased particularly with the pumpkin salsa and steak recipes. If you are looking for an all encompassing guide to Mexican cuisine this is a great place to get a start.

Vilches The Soup Bible is a wonderful collection of soup recipes divided into six sections: light & refreshing, rich & creamy, warming winter, hearty lunch, one-pot-meals, and special occasion. The variety is excellent, and there are soups from around the world. The front section on making stocks is very helpful as it includes not only the standard vegetable, chicken and meat stocks, but also fish stock and stocks for Chinese and Japanese cooking. Each recipe comes with beautiful end-result pictures as well as pictures of some of the steps involved. The directions are clear and simple. Many of the recipes come with suggestions for variations and all of the vegetarian selections are marked. Most of the soups use easy-to-find ingredients, but the exceptions often have tips on where to find the unfamiliar items.I've tried several of the recipes with no problems and delicious results. One of my personal favorites is the Tomato and Blue Cheese Soup. I'm looking forward to cooking and eating my way through these soups.

I've made about half of the soups and I could say with certainty that 50% of them are really great. The other 50% are lacking. The pictures are gorgeous, and I appreciate the photographs (why so many cookbooks fail to include photos for every recipe, I can't guess). But some of the soups are very bland, even though the picture is pretty. I have found myself tinkering with the recipes, trying to add some flavor, and have begun to recognize that the soups without spices are really unexciting. Still, a good buy, lots of options to choose from.

    Introduction

It’s an unseasonably warm winter morning, and I am in a good mood. The first thing I see when I arrive at work, twenty minutes late, is an e-mail. The subject line reads “Be Safe,” and it is e-addressed to three of my girlfriends.

“Hey,” it begins. Innocuous start. I am intrigued because the last time this friend sent me an e-mail, it was about paying her forty dollars for an all-you-can-drink brunch in Lower Manhattan.

“Looks like there was an attempted assault in your neighborhood.” I nod slowly and sip my coffee, like go on, you have my attention. “Just be extra vigilant.” It ends with a news link, as proof. I click it.

A man pushed a woman down to the ground while she was walking on the same block on which I buy my eggs, and she was now in the hospital. I think about myself on that block, hands full with bags of chips, Brie, and diet ginger ale.

The woman would survive, the article said, but her attacker had gotten away. The police released a description whose sole detail was the fact that the man “wore a sweatshirt.” The comments in the article were about how stupid the woman was for walking home so late. Again, I think about myself, walking home tipsy from two-martini happy hour. I think about two a.m., when I don’t have enough money in my wallet for a cab. I think about risk.

My friend Caroline responds to this e-mail first. “I walk that way a lot. This makes me VERY NERVOUS.” For once, I don’t find the caps overkill.

I pitch in next: “Guess it’s good I already hold my keys like they’re Wolverine claws!” I add a little humor to mask what I really want to say: “I’m always afraid of walking alone at night.” “Do we have to be worried everywhere we go?” And, of course:

    “It could have been me.”

These are thoughts I have all too frequently, not just when something happens on my block, or in Brooklyn, or in New York. It’s because this type of story is unavoidable anywhere you are. Every time you read the news or turn on the TV, it’s like some sort of monstrous Groundhog Day: assaults that happen to women on a college campus, or on a street, or in the house of someone they trusted, or while on a jog around the neighborhood. And every day, we read these stories silently, at our desks or on our phones, finding reasons why it wouldn’t have been us.

Well, I don’t really walk home that late. I usually take a cab. I try not to get too drunk. I try not to take drinks from other people. I am so good at following my gut. I am so vigilant. I look behind me, even when I’m wearing headphones.

But still, we know the truth. We know that it could always, always, be us. Or it was us. Or it was our best friend, or sister, or roommate. We know that walking late could be six p.m. or one a.m. We know that our gut is sometimes wrong. We know that we like to drink, and have fun, and meet new people. We know that we can always be wrong about the people we let our guard down around. We know why we are always scared.

So, to make us feel safer, we give each other tips.

Women are full of tips. There are good tips, like which translucent powder to use and how to wear the right Spanx for particular dresses. There are recommendations of cheap yoga places and lunch spots and lemony olive oil. There are other tips—never leave your drink unattended, give your friends the address of the restaurant where you’re meeting that guy—that are more about preserving life than hairstyles. Both are normal and needed.

At the very least, these tips serve to remind me how completely absurd it is to be a woman these days. In the same GChat conversation, you can talk about the best way to use a curling iron, and whether pepper spray is legal in your state. The answer is to curl some pieces of hair toward your face and other pieces away from your face, and in New York State, at least, it is legal. Or you might talk about the best shows to watch on Netflix when you are hungover, followed by how to turn down a drink in a way that is both nice and assertive enough to end the conversation. The answer to this is Gilmore Girls, and that you are going sober for your boyfriend, Fast and Furious franchise star Vin Diesel.

I should point out that these frustrating ironies of modern womanhood don’t affect how much I love being a woman. When I wear the suggested powder and it doesn’t fade all day, and I come home with a porcelain-doll face with no creases or oil slicks, I feel on top of the world. When I get to dance to “All the Single Ladies,” or have a girls’ night out where I shovel goat cheese salads into my face, or read about other greater women like Malala Yousafzai, I’m pretty thrilled to be a woman. However, with these triumphs comes the reminder that women have only been able to vote in the United States for less than one hundred years, or that in 2010, two-thirds of the world’s illiterate were women, or, according to RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network), a woman is sexually assaulted every 107 seconds. So. The world feels less like “how lovely to be a woman!” and more like “being a woman is objectively worse in the scheme of things!”

The night of the e-mail chain, I had to walk down that same street where the woman was jumped. On that short walk home, I was reminded of how much more real my fear of the dark is, now that I am older. Each time I step off the subway and make the five-minute walk to my door, I feel nervous. I look for safety points that put my mind at ease. People with baby carriages, couples, street lights, open stores, and other women. I find myself behind a shadowy figure who turns sharply at the sound of my boot heels approaching. She is a pretty Asian girl in absolutely stellar maroon pants. Both of us relax and half-smile when our eyes meet. We are relieved. We continue walking in a distant single file, feeling the safety in numbers.

I think about her, my friends, my roommate waiting for me when I close the door behind me, and all the women in my life that send me e-mails and give me tips. We are each other ’s relief in a world where relief is hard to come by.

It took me a long time to call myself a feminist. It took me an even longer time to say it out loud. And after that happened, I had to start explaining myself to people. A lot. This can be fun if you’re the type of person who, every once in a while, likes it when people tell you to your face why they think you’re an idiot.

Calling yourself a feminist is like making a comment on the Internet in real life: there’s always somebody who is going to disagree with your beliefs, and that person is going to express this disagreement with great passion and little digs at your life choices. Some people won’t like you as much anymore. You will be uncomfortable and end up learning nasty truths about some people you thought you respected. Believe me: I’ve dropped the f-bomb at parties, when I’ve mistaken two glasses of whiskey for comfort. Rookie mistake! Parties are awful and you should never be comfortable at them. And if you are looking for a surefire way to turn a comfortable party into a very alcohol-fueled romp through gender politics, bring up feminism.

It happens the same way pretty much every time. I’ll be in a conversation with a group of people about something topical. These people seem pretty cool, I think. One of them has a nose ring, which has been on my cool barometer since 1992. Then, I wave my crudité around and say something like, “Well, as a feminist, I think that . . .” and . . . give it, like, three seconds. Sometimes the convo will go well. Sometimes people will go “tell me more,” and we will pour more wine into mismatched cups and talk about street harassment. But usually . . .

“Whoa, whoa a feminist!” A guy will shake his hands at me in mock fear, as though I will perhaps suddenly get on a soapbox and pour menstrual blood all over him in protest.

Inevitably, this is followed by: “So, why are you a feminist?” I used to open my mouth immediately after this question but now I wait juuuust a millisecond for the inevitable fallout.

“I get that men and women should be equal, man, but you guys just have such a bad rep! You don’t want women and men to be equal, you want women to be BETTER, right?”

Well. If you are worried about the effects of feminism and you are a man, it’s probably because you are worried that men will start to be treated like women have been treated since the dawn of time. Which makes you nervous, no doubt. Now burn me! Burn me at the stake like the witch that I am!

Every once in a while another woman joins in: “Oh, I’m not a feminist. I believe in some of the things feminism stands for, but I’m not nearly that extreme,” as though the concept of equality is as Xtreme as pulling off a snowboard trick while drinking a Mountain Dew on a real mountain.

When a woman says she’s not a feminist, I always get a little thrown off guard. It’s literally for her. But, instead, I hear this:

“Oh, I don’t like to call myself a feminist—I love men!”

Yes. Okay. Men are great. They smell good. They play baseball in stadiums that have good hamburgers and beer. I have no qualms with many of the men in the world! I only have qualms with men who call me babe in casual conversation, men who sit with their legs spread on the subway, and men who think that being good at football means you are allowed to kill people. Anyway, what I’m saying is that you can love men if you want to. You can feel however you want about them. Equality has nothing to do with loving or hating them. And it has everything to do with feminism.

I think there are usually two reasons why women say theyaren’t feminists. One is because they don’t know what it means. The other is because they want to be liked by people. I get this. I generally love being liked, especially by friends’ parents, cute old people, and every dog I encounter. As a woman, we place a lot of our stock into being liked. We are supposed to be liked, and agreeable, and demure. Seen and not heard. We aren’t supposed to be disruptive. Saying you are a feminist means you want more. Women and Oliver Twist should never want more! It’s not ladylike (or orphanlike). We are supposed to be happy. Say yes. Nod along. The truth is, most of the time, women don’t want to publicly declare themselves feminists because of good old-fashioned not-interested-in-going-there syndrome. Feminism, after all, is a very unlikeable word. Feminism is standing behind you, screaming that your body hair needs to grow out. Feminism is yelling at all your favorite men, calling them disgusting and spitting at their genitals. Feminism is rude!

This, of course, is wrong. Very wrong. I’m talking Crocs when it’s raining, people who are sure that Dumbledore will make it through Harry Potter alive, and those who think it’s appropriate to leave less than 15 percent tip at dinner wrong. Feminism isn’t wrong. Feminism is important.

And that’s why I’m writing this book. For years, I treaded lightly around the word because I didn’t want to deal with people’s reactions. I worried about being liked more than I worried about being right, or tough, or honest. I made a living as a blogger, and then as an author, and I still feared saying it. I mean, I wrote publicly about how sex was like throwing an octopus against the wall and yet here I was, unable to utter the word. I was a real human woman who could really benefit from the declaration, and I was still afraid. Then, after I got tired of a great many things, I got a lot more scared of my disadvantages than the actual word “feminism.”

Whenever I hear feminism defined, I sometimes want to go all Princess Bride on their ass: “No, no, no. I do not think you know what that word means.” Given that so many graduation speeches begin with “Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines‘blank’ as . . . ,” you’d think people would look up the definition of feminism more often. But, instead, we get a bunch of half-assed sloppy explanations that come down to stereotypes and fear. If you’ve taken any gender studies class, this might be a bit repetitive but it always bears repeating:

Feminism: the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes.

You see that? Equality! A novel concept! You see, the true definition of feminism is not• eating men for supper with fava beans and a nice Chianti;• shipping men off to a remote island and making them fight each other for our entertainment, like the Hunger Games but with less kid death;• shunning women who choose to do traditional, old-fashioned things like “cook dinner” or “raise a baby” or “like men”;• yelling at men for doing real caveman stuff like opening the door or helping us with the groceries;• telling you how to be a woman.

When it is at its best, feminism points out problematic men and women and problematic behavior. It tells women that they are allowed to take control over their own bodies, what they look like, and whom they have sex with. It points out what is wrong with the world. It points out the ugly. It points out the frightening. It points out that women are mistreated often, both in tangible and intangible ways. It talks about difficult things that need addressing. It shines bright lights into society, into the world, and right smack into your damn party. The hard truth is this: we all know women and men aren’t treated equally across the world. We can Google this in two seconds and find real statistics about these differences, easily. So, the truth is this: if you are not a feminist because you believe you have it good, you’re saying, “I have all I need, and I don’t care that other women don’t.”

The point is, you need to be willing to go there.

To me, feminism means getting a fair shot. It doesn’t mean taking things away from other people. It doesn’t mean the death of men. It means that in the grand scheme of humanity, it doesn’t make sense that women aren’t treated as human as other humans. It means that all the women in your life deserve the careers they want, and they deserve to be compensated equally. It means that people will be held accountable for sexual assault. It means that women will be looked at as decision makers. It means that women will feel like their own bodies belong to them. It’s not man-hating. It just means we no longer want to put up with bullshit, and with every girl who is told she’s “asking for it,” our bullshit tolerance is getting lower and lower. It’s all sensible adjustments to culture—I don’t expect women to become Amazonian warriors à la Mad Max. They will not be trotting down the streets, spearing white men in suits. They will simply be an equal part of the conversation. Equality is the key word. If I give a dollar and ask for change, you get four quarters and not three. The same. SAME.

There’s another thing that I believe rounds out the definition: choice. Feminism is fighting for the choice to make informed decisions about your life and body.

There’s no right or wrong way to be a woman, or approach being a woman. Yet, somehow, you’ve probably spent a good part of your life thinking about the rules that come with being a woman: get a period, want children, want men, shave your legs and thighs and all the hair below your neck. Feminism is saying “choose how you want to live your life in ways that are right for you.” Wear cat eyeliner! Become a burlesque dancer! Shave only one leg! Have six kids and live in a remodeled farmhouse! Get the dessert! Make choices about yourself instead of following all the rules, and abandon the notion that you need to follow any path in order to be a “real woman!” This even has an added benefit for men, because it allows them to make choices, too. Want to be a stay-at-home dad? Paint your nails? Lotion your dry skin without losing man points, or whatever? Go for it!

So why are people so scared of it? What’s so scary about equality and choice?

Because it means some change to things as we know it. Because it means we admit faults. It means adjustments. And you know what?

    It’s already starting.

Listen, there are always going to be lecherous, stubborn people who believe that everything I am saying is crap. They won’t like me, and they won’t like you for calling yourself a feminist. They will work hard to say that feminism destroys all the good things about society—good women, chivalrous men, and gender roles that balance out the world. They will say that catcalling is a compliment, and sexual assault has been blurred to such a gray area they are afraid to even approach women.

They say this because they know things are changing. Change is already happening, and these people are afraid of being left behind. Women are voicing their fears, their outrage, and they’re teaching people about it. It’s not enough, but we’re getting there.

Does feminism still sound scary to you? Is it because it’s such a hard f sound? Sometimes, I blame the bad wrap for the word on the hard f sound, as a lot of unpleasant words begin the same way: fungus, fraternity, finals, felony, and fedora come to mind. I’m going to take a shot in the dark here and say you might be a feminist, too. Now look, I know you might be a little nervous to join us, lest you be ostracized from society and forced to only listen to folk music, but I am here to convince you that it’s okay and absolutely essential to say you are a feminist. To other human beings, even! I want you to look those party poopers in the eye and say, “I am a feminist” (and before they open their mouths) “because I believe in making women equal to other humans, like men. I am not here to take all the things. I am here to take what is mine, too. I am a feminist, hear me roar at a normal level, right before I get back to work!”

Not entirely sold if you are a feminist or not? Take my handy quiz:1. Do you think that your mother should be screamed at on the street on account of how good she looks in her outfit?2. With your knowledge of both science and anatomy, do you think that women are not humans?3. Are you an asshole?

If you said no to all three, congratulations! You are a feminist.

This book isn’t a guide to being a female, because I don’t think there should be any guidebook for that. Women come in too many shapes and forms. There is no one experience, no birthright, no singular way to identify as a woman. It’s just my experiences—I’m sure you will find some similarities and some differences in our lives, none of which make you any more or less a woman than me. I am, however, going to tell you how I grew up to be a feminist, how I learned to speak out, and how I finally stopped caring so much about being liked. It only took me, oh, a bunch of mistakes, a lot of holding my tongue, a long overdue trust in my strength, a hearty “That’s ENOUGH,” and two whole decades.

Here’s to hoping you get there much faster than I ever did.

Purdin I read Alida's last book and loved it so I was a little worried that this started out so serious. From eating disorders, the author's revelation that she was an a*hole in order to be cool and how to out yourself as a Feminist, Nugent's topics are a little more serious than her last book. But she still has a smart, original voice that can discuss makeup, giving her virginity and what it means to be a Feminist.I think many people can relate to Nugent and hopefully her book will help women that are "too cool" to have any other women friends.

By Katie Peterson This book is great - Alida is someone that any woman can relate too. I love her stories and I found myself laughing during one and then getting ridiculous emotional during the next. I love how funny and touching the stories are and I think this book really puts a focus on understanding that you can be who you are, despite what anyone else feels like.

And not just white, cisgendered women, this book strives to be inclusive of all women which already makes it steps better than the rest. Touching on everything from being a comedian to eating disorders and gendered toys Alida Nugent tells brutally honest stories about both her experience as a feminist and her growth as a woman. This is one of the few books that I've read where I've been able to say this! This is everything about feminism that people are missing when they dismiss it! The author is also candidly honest about her desire to be liked and how that's lead her to tear down other women in the past - and we've all been there. The best part of this book is it's step toward empowering women. The author repeats how important is is for us as women to be happy with ourselves, even when it's not cool, to be our own best advocates, and to trust our gut. With a short section on assault even I think this book covers the bases as the perfect book of Feminism 101.Whether or not you agree with every one of Nugent's experiences is irrelevant, she articulates many issues women face through her own anecdotes and documents the terrible advice and conflicting expectations that are hoisted on women every day. This book is a fantastic take on being a woman.

Smoking Salmon Meat Recipes Smoked Salmon recipes are one of my favorite smoked recipes. This is because you can enjoy a deeper flavor and cover up any little bit of the fishy taste that the meat does have. Not only this, it allows you to add depth of flavor by using a marinade or a rub. Smoking meats is not a new art. The concept of smoking meat dates back to caveman days when it was necessary for preserving food. As years went by, smoking meat became a popular form of preserving meats for a later date. Smoking is an art, not a science, and I'm going to show you how super easy it can be. The books details basic techniques for how to smoke your fish, and then delivers a couple dozen creative recipes featuring smoked salmon. My favorite is probably the "Alfredo Sauce Pasta with Smoked Salmon," though I made a non-dairy version with cashew cream sauce instead of whipped cream.Nothing particularly crazy about this one, but you get exactly what you came for.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Perfect guide! By Natasha Begue I liked this book. I love the smoked fish and this book contains a great variety with recipes. All recipes include the salmon, which is the healthier fish and full of omega 3 fats. This guide is well-written and inside the book there are amazing pictures for each recipe. All recipes seem delicious and definitely I’ll try lots of them!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. healthy recipes for home and camping By writer2050 Smoker recipes - essential top 25 smoking salmon recipes by Hinkle et al talks about smoking and smoked salmon which is good for you as the fish contains Omega 3. It is also good because it's low in mercury and trans fats. Some recipes take over an hour to prepare but I have three favourites: Incredibly smoked salmon, Creamy creative pasta with smoked salmon, and Alfredo sauce pasta with smoked salmon. Unfortunately there were formatting problems with pictures covering up the title of some of the recipes. Then these were followed by 25 camping recipes. The watermelon recipe has rum so adults only. One recipe required a microwave (S'more apples), the Summer corn salad required a fridge in the preparation, and one needed an oven (Smash gouda etc.) All in all a guide to smoked salmon (one recipe required a smoker) and camping.
