About the Author

Rolf Behling holds a diploma in physics from the University of Hamburg, Germany. During more than 30 years in the medical industry he has held many positions, including department head of tube technology development, global project coordination manager, global innovation manager, head of marketing and field support for X-ray tubes, department head for X-ray tube development, project manager, and process physicist. The first spiral-groove-bearing X-ray tube was developed under his leadership. He currently heads the Philips Group for Advanced Development of X-ray Tubes and X-ray Generators at Philips HealthTech in Hamburg. He is a part-time lecturer at the University of Hamburg and has written numerous patents and publications in vacuum technology and medical imaging.

It definitely fills a huge gap in scientific literature. This book is very comprehensive. It covers everything from the history to the deep technical details(Stuff you didn't know but were afraid to ask). The authors insight into future trends seems to be very insightful. I believe this book will be an industry standard for many years to come. If I was a rich man I would buy copies for all my nerdy friends.

Matthews Not a lot to say about this, since if you are thinking of buying it then you likely already know what you are going to get: 400 pages of unrelenting, ethically informed, in equal measures intimidating and seductive critical intelligence. There can surely have been no more frightening news delivered to any newly published author than that a copy of their book had been sent to Bernard Williams.Roger Scruton has just published a fairly widely circulated review in which he complains (he is otherwise generously positive - especially considering that Williams dismisses him at one point as 'vapid') that Williams tended to deploy his intelligence to identify the gaps in others' thinking, but avoided setting out positive positions himself. This is at least sort of true, but misses the point about a man who wrote a book on 'Ethics and the limits of Philosophy'. Williams didn't mean that the philosophical tradition is useless, but that its utility is sometimes defined in terms of intellectual hygiene, not in in the setting out of positive positions.This is 400 pages of intellectual hygiene at its most educational and seductive. It is also, sometimes, laugh out loud funny.

By j a haverstick This collection got a terrific review in the LRB by , Geoffrey Hawthorn, apparently a friend of Willliams’. The review offered a retrospective of his work and reminded me of how much I have learned from him over the years. Williams is a generation older than I and I have been reading his reviews as well as his books for a long time. These essays and reviews serve as wonderful history of philosophy over the last half century. And they keep you awake without making you think (as Williams says of a book he reviews on Russell). But don’t take offense, I mean “think” in the sense of an academic analysis for a colloquium. If we mean by “think” the contemplation of the big questions and the grand issues of the recent past, then you’ll get some nice exercise from this book. And I second the remark by another reviewer, laugh out loud funny, sometimes. I expected to read some and skip half, as is usual in such a collection. I read them all. I join the chorus of praise

I decided to release book 2 because there are still so many unanswered questions when it comes to understanding men. These are not tell-all books. Because there is so much to tell, it couldn’t possibly be told in just a few books. The intent of these books is to share some insight as to a man’s way of thinking. Understanding what things are, and how they’re supposed to function is key to using them properly and to getting the most out of them. Of course, I don’t mean “use” in the literal sense. However, without this understanding the information is useless to you. As you read, remember that men have a unique way of communicating just the same as women. What I want you to take away from my books is how to respect our communication differences, and not to be offended by them. Realize what a power play is, but be able to recognize when it is that vs. a miscommunication. Never assume. When in doubt, simply ask for clarity. We invest a great deal of time putting out fires because we allow misunderstandings to flare up. I urge you not to allowthese simple things to ruin your next relationship.

Tennille Takes me back to a simpler time when we arose at daybreak and did the "chores" for an hour or two before sitting down to a hearty breakfast of steak, eggs, biscuits and gravy. Then work till about noon and come in for "dinner" and a short nap. Back out till time to wash up for supper. Hard work and simple but tasty food filled our days and our bellies. A steady diet of these recipes may not be advisable for everyday fare unless you are burning in excess of 3000 calories and breathing fresh country air, but a taste now and then is filled with the flavor and nostalgia of ranch life. Great job Amber!

Today, Indonesian food is well-known for its fried rice or nasi goreng; its satay, the local version of the Arab kebabs; its beef rendang, chili condiment or sambal, and tempeh or roasted soybean cakes. Indonesian cuisine is as varied as its culture. With the world’s fourth largest population made up of 250 ethnic groups and spread out over 6,000 populated islands, Indonesia, as can be imagined, is a land of huge diversity. The archipelago once lay along the ancient trading routes between the Middle East and the Far East, a position that opened it wide to the influences from many far-off places. There are many similarities between Malay food in Malaysia and Indonesian cuisine, but to the experienced palate the differences are just as noticeable. As with the rest of Southeast Asia, rice is the staple diet in Indonesia, except in Irian Jaya and Maluku where people sustain themselves with sago, which is a type of tapioca, sweet potatoes and cassava. Rice is usually eaten plain, combined with a meat dish, a vegetable dish, a sambal and crunchies like fried peanuts or fried anchovies. Sometimes, the rice is steamed in woven packets of coconut leaves to make what is called a ketupat; and sometimes it is steamed in banana leaves and served as lontong. In Indonesia, it is common for dishes to be cooked ahead of time and later eaten at room temperature. This seems to suit Indonesian families, many of whom do not have set meal-times. This practice is also common in restaurants and public eating places in Indonesia. Most Indonesian food is moderately spicy with a predominance of ginger, garlic and fresh turmeric.

After he left back for home, we missed his cooking and we thought of cooking some Indonesian meals too. He sent us some recipes and we also collected a few on our own. One of our references is this book. This book covered easy to do recipes from the Indonesian cuisine. Since it is a beginners' book, you can expect easy instructions and meals which are fast to cook. I like this book and we will keep on looking here for other meal recipes since we have not tried out everything yet.

It even has a chapter on where to find everything you need I would defiantly recommend this book if your looking to make to good tasting Indonesian food!

It is rather extensive in size, it has the following sections:BREADS, ROLLS,EGGSSOUPSENTREESVEGETABLESSALADSFRUIT DESSERTSDESSERTS. PUDDINGSICE CREAMS AND WATERCAKESCANDIESPICKLES, SAUCES, Etc.SWEET SAUCES.SAVORY SAUCESSANDWICHESSUNDRIESMISCELLANEOUS RECIPESThe section on baked goods is very nice. I tried the recipe for Coffee Bread and it came out quite well. Section on eggs is rather extensive, one of the omelet recipes was different from the ones I ever made an I tried, i was delicious! An egg section followed by a Soup section. The soups sounded fairly simple to make, simple yet tasty. I have not tried any, but plan to. Entrees varied from vegetables to a large variety of potato-based dishes. Salads were interesting, I was intrigued by tomato jelly and plan to try it out. All fruit recipes sounded terrific! Scalloped apples are on my to-do list. Fruit section is followed by desert section. Again, simple food, wholesome ingredients, they sounded really good!The book ends with miscellaneous recipes for non-edible things such as lotions and soaps.Overall, simple wholesome comfort food!
