Review "A well-written, witty, engaging, and ultimately informative book explores a growing question plaguing twenty-first century women: have we forfeited our connection to family and motherhood in the quest to 'have it all'? Taken from the perspective of a wanna-be grandmother who wonders if teaching her daughter feminist lessons left out part of the message-the happiness and satisfaction that comes from having children and a strong family life. Doctors, psychologists, mothers, and daughters are all given a voice in this well-researched, thoughtprovoking tome that explores the why, what, and how of making choices about having babies in today's world of new technology vs. our ancient biology." - Dorothy Leeds, author of The 7 Powers of Questions: Secrets to Successful Communication in Life and at Work "Debbie Slevin tackles head-on the discussions that need to take place with respect to the single and childless women of waning fertile years and to those married, but delaying pregnancy. Each chapter delves into the varying perspectives of professionals, religious leaders, women and men, as to how and why this "unpregnant pause" is occurring and why it is necessary to talk about this now. It's a book like no other regarding the insight of a woman's right to choose in contrast with the more often "unchoice" of childbearing. UnPregnant Pause delves deeply into society's failure to address that fertility and pregnancy are governed by biology and are in unresolved conflict with pressures for women during their peak fertile years to "lean into" their careers." - Alice Meehan, Esq. "This book is a warning to those that think 'this will not happen to me, I can have it all!' Fairy tales don't always come true, so while a career and personal interests take precedence in their lives, women should prepare alternatives for the day when they want to have a family and their 'time' has run out." - Bassima Mustafa, New Jersey Educator "Debbie Slevin offers an insightful and honest perspective on an important current and widespread topic. Carefully curated and well-researched, UnPregnant Pause deepens our understanding of a dilemma that many women (and men) face. Thoughtprovoking, relatable and thoroughly enjoyable, I recommend this book to friends, colleagues and patients alike. Anyone who wants to make an informed decision about whether to leave a stagnant relationship, when to have children, or how to prioritize career and parenthood NEEDS to read this!" - Dr. Julia Yacoob, Clinical Psychologist "Where have all the babies gone? Plagued by this phenomenon and a desire for grandchildren, Debbie Slevin journeys for answers through the minds of experts, family, friends and strangers. UnPregnant Pause is an informative, well-researched yet witty read that explores the impact of parenting and lifestyles throughout generations, and in doing so, incites meaningful discussions for book clubs of all ages and genders." - Maris Sattely, Esq.

Today, I am more knowledgable than yesterday as her research and in depth interviews provided me with information relating to a question that, I will assume, every woman has asked herself at one point or another, “Does the fairy tale ending, “and she lived happily ever after” pertain to me?A must read for all moms solely on the basis that we love our children, that will never change. However, the the more we know, the better we can guide.Darlene Alderoty

Iannuzzi If you are a baby boomer, a mother and a feminist, and you have no grandchildren, read this book. You will be on your way to understanding why there is a dearth of grandchildren across the cities and suburbs. Ms. Slevin talks to experts and shares her own story to give the reader an informative story of this phenomenon. Her book is honest, entertaining, humorous and often heartbreaking. It's a great read.

A Must Read for Women of All Ages By momoftwo Well written and insightful, this book highlights the dilemma of women who embraced Feminism and raised their daughters to have choices - and now those choices are leaving these same women without grandchildren, as their daughters approach the end of their childbearing years with no husbands or babies. As author Debbie Slevin examines the dearth of grandchildren among her inner circle, she embarks on a journey to understand this growing phenomenon in society at large. This important book interweaves poignant interviews with women who have achieved considerable career success but feel they are missing out on marriage and children, insights from experts, and Slevin's own personal journey. As a mother of two who married at 35, I found myself relating to many of the women interviewed. What I especially admire about this book is that it's truly balanced. Nobody is condemned for their choices. Feminism is not the bad guy. Marriage and children are not presented as the only path. This book is truly not just a must read for women - but also for men - because these issues ultimately affect us all. An excellent choice for book clubs. Highly recommended!
