I applaud her courage and candor as she details her years of suffering at the hands of supposed loved ones and state agencies By Rosalyn This book was a true sacrifice of the author-- pouring her soul into each page and disrobing her shame in the hopes that it will liberate others with similar accounts and empower them too to advocate for change in the child welfare system. I applaud her courage and candor as she details her years of suffering at the hands of supposed loved ones and state agencies. My heart both hurt for her and cheered for her as I read her metamorphosis from the little girl in the attic to the Butterfly--unbound and free.Congratulations Shandreka! They couldn't break you!

By kelly j. gardner As a former victim of the Foster Care system, I have a firsthand knowledge of what the author so bravely displayed in her book, so as I read her words it felt as though I was having a one on one conversation with her, which I feel would be very therapeutic to other victims as they can see that there are real people out here in the world that also share their same upbringing, background and similar experiences as well, which might in turn make them more willing to open up about their selves and seek counseling as well as the possibility of wanting to help others in the same situation. As I stated earlier, the author was so brave to open up and show her vulnerable side to the world which I find so refreshing as well as I see that it was step towards her overcoming her circumstances and eventually steps on the road to being healed with an ultimate goal of learning the value of one’s true self-worth…

James The author really opened up herself and showed a level of vulnerability, I am not sure I would have been able.Shandreka took me on a journey that made me question my way of thinking. I realized (as continue to do each day) that we are nothing more than our life experiences strung together and these experiences shape how we react to different events, issues, conflicts as well as celebrations.In short- we all are going to react to things differently and even if I don't agree I should take a minute to try to understand where a person is coming from.I also realized that the Foster Care system is broken (like many other systems) in this country. It is extremely unfortunate that Shandreka was forced to endure all that she has, but I am so happy that God and the universe turned things around for her.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. although common people like me, would never imagine would be so drastic By Amazon Customer The Book is a recompilation of the whole process these news professionals experienced during a very interesting journalism investigations uncovering just the tip of the iceberg about the corruption that the actual President of Mexico embraces as the leader of the country. The investigations shows "business as usual" in Mexico, although common people like me, would never imagine would be so drastic. It certain can be a great movie, except for the fact that might not have a powerful ending because in Mexico, even with such an incredible reality of corruption and conflict of interest, nothing happens. These four Journalists truly are the heroic youngsters of the new millennium in Mexico. They did what could do, with incredible limitations in resources, support, relations. Is a great Book written in Spanish. It would be great to have it in English.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Muy interesante. By Pedro No cabe duda del profesionalismo de estos reporteros, y muy lamentable la actuacion de nuestros gobernates, este libro muestra la escencia de la corrupcion y el descaro del gobierno de Mexico. Señores deberian renenciar!!!

Cuenta a mayor detalle las andanzas de Enrique Peña Nieto y la constructora de su compadre Juan Armando Hinojosa, que ha ganado numerosas licitaciones y adjudicaciones directas del gobierno local y federal desde que Peña era gobernador y Presidente. Detalla y pone al descubierto claramente cómo una constructora, que no se dedica a construir casas, construyó y financió las casas de Enrique Peña y de Luis Videgaray Caso, brazo derecho de Peña Nieto. El libro expone por demás claramente el cínico conflicto de intereses de Peña y Videgaray.
