Rather than gush over the prose, I'll share my experience working with the authors.I turn down the majority of editing work that comes my way, either because I feel another professional can better engage with the subject matter or judge the expectations of readers of a particular genre, or because of the simple business reality that an hour of design work pays better than an hour of editing. When George Walther and Barbie Taylor contacted me about their quirky romance story that defied genres and categories, my hand instinctively reached for the lever that opens the bombay doors. Give me a harrowing sea adventure or a triumph over the elements book to engage with. I'm a guy; I don't read romance books, and I hardly felt qualified to edit one.But after some conversation, I realized I was dealing with a pair of brilliant, quirky, colorful, idiosyncratic, eccentric people—neither of whom was any stranger to the art of wordcraft. Nor was this a "romance book" as any popular category would define it. So began our professional association."Honey, I'm Home!" is a lighthearted story of opposites attracting. Forget any preconceptions you might have about romance books. This is no Harlequin novel. Don't expect gratuitous, steamy scenes or melodrama; this is NOT a story of heartbreaking separation or bold confrontation leading to the two lovers finally uniting. The final text is the result of endless iterations, debates over word choice and sentence structure, countless readings and re-readings—all the things that distinguish professional writing from the hacked together verbiage that represents the sad majority of independently published books.
